You spend most of the day sailing along the coast of breathtaking Vesterålen and Senja Islands towards Tromsø.
At the end of the 19th century, road connections were non-existent in Northern Norway, and it took no less than 3 weeks in summer and 5 months in winter to send a letter from Trondheim to Hammerfest!
A merchant marine captain, Richard With, took up the challenge of the idea of a maritime line between these two cities, on behalf of a young shipping company which signed, in May 1893, a 4-year contract. Everywhere along the way, the ship and the crew were greeted with celebrations: a national institution has just been born and the Coastal Express shipping line, HURTIGRUTEN, immediately became part of the national heritage. Today, the 34 stops (on the full cruise) are connected daily, day and night, summer, and winter, by 11 ships, each making the round trip in 11 days.
You will disembark in the afternoon and check-in at your hotel.
