Day 1: Welcome to Tromsø

Arrival to Tromsø, the Arctic Capital! Pick up your rental car from Tromsø Airport and drive to your centrally located hotel.

Tromsø is the city of adventurers looking for unforgettable experiences. Since the middle of the 19th century, Tromsø has been an arctic hunting center and a starting point for expeditions. You are going to visit the land of polar nights. Located at 69 degrees north – Tromsø is 320 km above the Arctic Circle. The city is surrounded by spectacular mountains and crystal blue water. Finally, the city clusters some of the highest levels of Northern Lights activity on earth, making it the perfect destination to observe this phenomenon.

Day 2: Optional activities in Tromsø

Breakfast in the hotel.

You will have an entire day to explore the city on your own or choose one of the optional activities that we offer. (Option list can be found further below.) You will have the chance to book a snowmobile activity, husky & reindeer safari or Northern Lights cruise.

Tromsø, located about 2000 km from the North Pole, is a center of research, education and commerce in the High North. Tromsø also has a cultural scene, and a renowned cuisine combining fish, game and international spices. The locals are known to be welcoming and largely English speaking. The people of Tromsø love their city, and they can’t wait to tell you why!

Day 3: Crossing Lyngen Fjord & Alta

Depart from Tromsø: you pass through the region of the spectacular Lyngen Alps, mountains ending abruptly in the Arctic Ocean creating a dramatic and splendid landscape. These peaks remain covered in eternal snow also during the summer adding yet another dose of magic to the picture. In winter, the Lyngen Alps are popular with off-piste skiers who hike to the top and take advantage of the pristine snow by sliding through breathtaking landscape.

Ferry crossing from Breivikeidet to Svensby, then another ferry from Lyngeseidet to Olderdalen. From the village of Olderdalen, drive along the Lyngenfjord. Arrival to Alta in the afternoon, where you should not miss the Museum of Rock Carvings, one of the most important sites in the world with outstanding universal value.

In Alta the changing landscape of prehistoric times is evident, and the position of the carvings also provides a key to understanding the chronology of rock art in the circumpolar region.

Day 4: Visit to Igloo Ice Hotel

Breakfast in the hotel.

Start the day with a visit to Alta’s Ice Hotel, Sorrisniva. Entrance to the hotel in included and you can discover this wonderful structure made of snow and ice. This hotel is rebuilt every year as soon as the weather permits. The ice is sculpted to give shape to furniture: bed, armchair, restaurant tables, bar, murals etc. The result is breathtaking and gives a little touch of magic to the place. You can end your visit with a very refreshing drink at the Ice Bar, before heading north.

You cross Finnmark and drive along Porsanger Fjord to reach Honningsvåg, at the very top of Norway.

Day 5: North Cape under the snow

Meet at 11 a.m. at Skarsvåg junction, about ten kilometers from the North Cape. Due to the heavy snow cover, it is necessary to get there by convoy, escorted by a snowplow. Here you are at the northernmost point in mainland Europe – the North Cape. Here you will find a restaurant, a small museum and a chapel here. In summer, this is where the midnight sun can be seen shining above the horizon. In winter, you can admire the immensity in front of you. Return by convoy at 1 p.m. to Honningsvåg for a moment of relaxation.

Day 6: Cruise to TROMSØ

Breakfast in the hotel.

Drive to Hammerfest in the morning, crossing magical landscapes covered with snow. You may also see herds of reindeer along the way. The Hurtigruten boat, a coastal express that runs between Bergen and Kirkenes every day of the year, takes you back to your starting point. You take advantage of the trip to admire the coasts and see the fjords from a new perspective – from the open sea this time. Be sure to step out on the deck after dark to try to catch the Northern Lights. If weather allows, Aurora is clearly visible from the sea, because there is no light pollution. The reflection of the lights on the water is one-of-a-kind view!

Day 7: Farewell

Breakfast in the hotel.

If time allow you, take a last stroll around the city or hurry to buy some last-minute souvenirs. Return your rental car at Tromsø Airport and departure by flight.
